1. The interface is contaminated

Optical transceivers are often used as the last link in network construction, sometimes they will be idle for a period after purchased. It is inevitable that dust will cause the contamination for interface when the dust plugs are unplugged, or use contaminated jumper wire

Therefore, do not remove the dust plug before using the optical transceiver, and connect to a new uncontaminated jumper.

2. Electrostatic damage

Electrostatic damage is relatively common, and the discharge process of static electricity can cause serious damage to the optical module. At the same time, when the statically adsorbed dust accumulates to a certain extent, it will change the impedance between the lines, which will not only affect the normal use of the optical module, but also shorten the life of the optical module. When using the optical module, you should pay attention to the electrostatic protection, you’d better wear an electrostatic wristband or anti-static finger cot.

3. Optical power overload

Optical transceivers’ transmission are divided into short-distance, medium-distance, and long-distance. Long-distance working environments often use the corresponding distance module. If the long-distance optical module is used to transmit the short distance, the received optical power of the optical module will be caused. If it is too high, the optical module will be burned out. In order to prevent the module from burning out, an optical attenuator should be added to reduce the received optical power.
